An inmate in South Carolina had sounded a “longer death” after a firing squad had not achieved its intended goals, as an investigation was shown by South Carolina's Supreme Court.

On April 11, the 42 -year -old Mikal Mahdi was executed by a shooting squad in South Carolina. Mahdi screamed about 45 seconds after the shot and groaned twice. A doctor declared him dead about four minutes after firing the shots and exceeded the expected consciousness window “10 to 15 seconds”. Mahdi's lawyers argue that the timeline has proven that the execution has deviated from the protocol and that it suffered unnecessary pain.

Two forensic pathologists who examined Mahdi's bodies stated that they “expected the entrance wounds to be higher” and “did not expect the liver to find such severe damage to the liver,” revealed Dr. Jonathan Arden, a pathologist who was retained by Mahdi's lawyers, in his report according to the guardian.
