The former CEO of the independent election and limited commission (IEBC), James Oswago, has distanced himself from the notorious Chicken Gate election scandal.

Oswago denied allegations that associated him with the scandal and explained that his indictment was separated and not connected.

“The information on my indictment states that I had granted Smith and Ouzman a contract for the delivery of 57,000 ballot papers for the election of the South Mugirango constituency without shared by the tender committee,” said Oswago on Friday, May 9, during an interview with Spice FM.

He explained that his crime did not affect the committee of the tender, which he claimed that he was not exists at that time. He added that he had never inflated the number or costs of the ballot papers.

“I have neither the number of ballot papers nor the costs for the post -elections,” said Oswago.

Oswago also found that the public understanding of the Chicken Gate scandal has strongly rejected the reality presented in court.

“There is this public fixation with chicken gate, but there is the reality of the chicken gate in the courtroom, and what is in the courtyard is not what is talked about in the press,” said Oswago.

The Chicken Gate scandal broke out when a court in the United Kingdom accused the Kenyan election officers to receive bribes, which was called “chicken” to award lucrative pressure contracts to the British company Smith and Ouzman.
