Trump suggests openness to reduce China tariffs before the trade talks

On Friday, President Trump proposed that he was open to significantly reduce the tariffs that the United States had imposed in China, as American and Chinese negotiators are preparing to meet high operations this weekend.

The trade voltages between the United States and China have built through international markets and the global economy. Negotiations on Saturday and Sunday should de -escalate and help to create the stage for a wider trading pact between the two economic superpowers.

In a contribution to social media, Mr. Trump said that a tariff of 80 percent on China appears “right” and added that it was “up to Scott B”, an obvious reference to the finance minister Scott Besser.

A tariff of 80 percent would be a great decline compared to the currently 145 percent, which Mr. Trump has imposed on Chinese imports in recent months. But this high a level would still complete the most trade between the countries. The Chinese data published on Friday showed that shipments from this country to the United States fell by 21 percent in April from the previous year.

It is also unclear whether the talks lead to a short -term solution for two governments that have serious economic disputes and have accepted a strong tone for others in recent months.

The Trump administration has driven a self-imposed period for additional tariffs for most trading partners to strike trade agreements with other countries. But it has remained in a patient situation with China, which is already subject to a minimum tariff of 145 percent for all imports.
