Bill, named after St. John's County Teen who were killed at Crash, increases the punishments for repeated DUI offenders

St. Johns County, Fla. – An invoice that would increase the penalties for repeated DUI offenders is waiting for the signature of governor Ron Desantis.

The legislative template, which was referred to as the “Law of Trenton”, was named after the 18-year-old Creekside High Grade Trenton Stewart, who was hit and killed by a ruthless and impaired driver, which drove 113 miles per hour in a 45-mile zone.

“I mean it was exhausting. It was a long process, but it was worth it,” Trenton's mother Mandi Stewart told News4jax.

Mandi and her husband Robert said that they had not only pushed for the law for Trenton, but also to fix a faulty way of solving an avoidable problem.

Robert explained that the driver who killed Trenton had previously killed someone when he was younger in the same way.

“It was still treated as if he had never done it before, and the Max was for 10 years,” said Robert.

The driver was guilty and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Mandi said she had the feeling that the law would give families if they were signed, a better feeling for justice.

The Stewarts continue to endure the loss of their son and find healthy ways to keep them alive with Trenton Stewart Foundation.

“We offer scholarships to those who want to play a college sport, or those who really thrive from an academic point of view. And so we were able to award scholarships in Trenton's memory alone last night,” said Mandi. “And then to hear her view of what happened to Trenton and how it has affected as a student athlete or as a student in general, that really helps.”

Regardless of whether it is the basis or the camps, the young children and young people about football and the importance of nutrition and a healthy lifestyle, trenton's legacy will live forever.

“I think he was really a legend. He was very motivated,” said Robert. “He was very concentrated and very balanced in his physical, but also in mental health and stability and what he wanted to do.”

Mandi said Trenton's resistance during his short life brings her comfort.

“Trenton really dedicated his life when they know that it is not an option to be resilient and motivated and concentrated,” said Mandi. “Regardless of our experience, this is something that resonates in our entire community.”

Mandi said that many of the friends of his Trenton and the students who received scholarships shared the effects that Trenton had on their lives.

“So that I as a mother make me very proud because you hope that you will convey certain characteristics to your child, but when you hear that he went out and that he lived and he lived.
