Bodycam video from FWC officials who react to Miami News, Weather, Sport

Miami (WSVN) critical Body Camera Video, in which officials reacted to a boat accident, in which a 17-year-old teenager was killed and 10 more injured, was deleted just two months before the trial against the alleged driver of the ship.

The boat fell against Boca Chita against a pole in 2022. Luciana Fernandez was among the injuries to the crash and later died of her injuries.

The prominent real estate agent from Miami, George Pino, was charged in 2024, which was accused of being at the head of his 29-foot robal boat when it collided with a sewer marker.

Now the body camera worn by the police, who recorded an official in close contact with Pino after the crash, which was appointed by his superior to smell pino after alcohol poisoning.

“It is completely unacceptable when it comes to a man who killed a young girl,” said Brent Fannin from the Brasinwroots Coalition Wild Florida Alliance.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission published an explanation in which the recording was classified correctly by civil servants who “neither the main officials were addressed directly against violations in this case”.

The FWC also made it clear that the officials did not delete the film material, but that they followed the current directive and the automatic process of the system deleted it after a period.

The explanation is partially:

“In this case, the officials categorized their videos as accidental, which was an appropriate classification according to the existing guideline. They were neither the main representatives in that case, and they did not deal directly. In addition, the officers did not delete their BWC videos. This is a process that is automatically as soon as the holding time for the specific category of the video was met.”

The explanation also states that the officials categorized the video correctly, but the guideline for the support of the assistant officials is unclear and steps were taken to check it.

Fannin led the indictment against the confirmation of Rodney Barreto 2020, the current chairman of the FWC. He said to 7News that this is just one of many problems by Barreto's team.

“The examination should have been pretty uncomplicated, but that was not. The examination was completely botched up,” said Fannin. “When it came out that this was a big problem, Rodney Barreto made an explanation to say basically:” This was a human mistake, these things happen, “was his excuse. He didn't even give a good excuse, that was it.”

A lawyer from Fernandez 'family published an explanation:

“At this point, the Fernandez family is not willing to give an explanation because they are persecuted under criminal law and because they need time to process what they have just learned now.”

Fernandez 'family campaigned for stricter boat laws and achieved some successes with the adoption of “Lucy's Law”.

According to reports, Pino refused to test alcohol on the night of the crash. In late Friday afternoon, his senior defender Howard Srebnick published an explanation that partly reads:

“We are also disturbed by the deletion of the officer's camera supported with body, which the story of Miami Herald referred to on May 9, 2025. Mr. Pino deposit made.

Pino was charged with murder of crime ships and his process is set for July.
