Lea Michele says Cory Monteith's death “broken” her 'Glee' experience “

Almost 12 years later, Lea Michele recently thought about the 2013 death of her Joy Co-star and late friend Cory Monteith.

The 2x Golden Globe candidate explained that after the death of Monteith at the age of 31, she “only broke” through combined heroin and alcohol toxicity and found that her relationship with her co-stars felt “really broken” after his death.

“If we didn't appear to work, people would not have to work,” added Michele. “And that was a lot of pressure for me, so I had to put my things aside and just appear so that everyone could continue working.”

When asked whether Monteith's death brought the line -up closer, she explained: “I think it really broke so much. I mean, I can't speak for everyone – I think that it was in some way done for certain people. But I think it was so difficult for me, I just broke completely.

“I was really in a track to do my job. It was far too much to process at a young age,” she said, noticing that she was still “supported” by the line-up and the crew of the FOX series.

“I am very grateful for everyone, whether they know or not,” continued Michele. “I personally had a lot of support from everyone in the building that helped me get through. Especially from the crew.

Michele found with the show in her fifth season at the time of Monteith's death on July 13, 2013 that the characters had completed the high school. “Until then, many people were gone,” she said.

In the meantime, Michele continues with co-stars Darren Criss and Dianna Agron and adds: “There is such comfort because we all really went through that only we will ever understand. So I feel so safe and so comfortable. Family forever.”
