Long Island Schools achieve $ 270 million state-AID-threshold-but also homeowners are still drowning in some of the highest basic taxes in the United States

The Long Island Schools will receive more than 270 million dollars of state aid for next year -a jump of 5.4% compared to last year -but local homeowners are still drowning by some of the highest basic taxes in the United States.

Albany's new budget provides a record transfer of 37 billion US dollars in school financing in the state.

The pact also affects the free school breakfast and lunch for all students regardless of income and from autumn implemented a nationwide smartphone ban on the classroom.

“This represents one of the largest nationwide school help for the foundation aid formula in 2007,” said the New York School Board Association in a statement and referred to the attempt by the state to distribute money to needy districts.

The schools in Nassau are divided into an additional 123 million US dollars -a jump of 6% for the district -which brings the total amount of state funds to almost 2.15 billion dollars for next year.

With an increase of approximately 5% with almost 150 million US dollars, Suffolk is increased by 5% to increase your overall aid to more than 3 billion US dollars.

The vast majority of Long Island's school districts – 108 of 124 – stands for an increase in state help as part of a new budget of Albany.

While most of their increases will be relatively small, a handful of districts will make significant profits, including Elmont and Deer Park with 13% jumps as well as Hempstead and Mittelland with almost 11%.

However, since the budget was adopted more than 30 days too late, in combination with the state laws in which the districts have to complete their budget proposals for the next year until April 25, homeowners in Long Island will see no decline in their property taxes at least this year, which are among the highest in the nation.

The basic taxes in both counties have been resigned in the past ten years despite state help about a much greater proportion of school financing by Long Island than a decade ago. According to Newsday, this rose from around 21% in 2015-16 to almost 32% in this school year.

Governor Kathy Hochul told the homeowners in Long Island last week that the relief was included in the budget and promised that around 80% of New York will decrease their taxes and at the same time received inflation checks and tax credits for children.

“Your family is my fight,” Hochul told reporters outside of a Copiague house.
