Chicago Cubs Score and Summary (09.05.25): Mets 7, Cubs 2

The Cubs were greeted quite roughly on Friday evening in their series start of the METS in the Citi Field. New York scored four homes from Starter Jameson Taillon and drove to an easy victory.

Francisco Lindor followed up to the bottom of the 1st and it was just the beginning. Brett Baty and Jeff McNeil each met their own solo shots in the 2nd to put the Mets 3-0. Clay Holmes was much sharper than Taillon and held the Cubs spring.

New York invited the bases with one in the end of the third and Luisangel Acuña met a floor ball to second place that Chicago tried to turn into a double game. Unfortunately, Shortstop Dansby Swanson made a wild litter and made two runs possible when the home team went 5-0.

The northern coils finally got on the board in the 4th inning when Kyle Tucker met a solo homer to the right field. Juan Soto immediately replied in the floor of the frame with an absolute lunar shot in front of Taillon to give the Mets a 6-1 edge.

Michael Busch met a window movement Homerun in the 9th Inning, but Chicago lost 7: 2 (Box score)))

Key moment

Lindor gave the tone for the game on Friday directly from the jump with his Homerun and New York never really looked back.

Why the Cubs lost

They fell into an early hole and the offensive stuttered for a second game in a row.

Statistics that are important

  • Taillon was lit by left -handed rackets: 4 IP, 6 R, 5 er, 9 h, 4 k, 1 bb.
  • Nicky Lopez went twice and was the only Cubs player who reached the base more than once.
  • Ryan pressed himself in the 7th Inning Pressly to try to build trust after he had given up eight on Tuesday. He gave up a single and a walk, but did not allow runs.

Conclusion

The Mets could be the best team in the baseball and they certainly seemed to be like that on Friday. If the Cubs can come out of New York to avoid a sweep, you should take it as a victory. Hopefully this was just a blip for Taillon because Chicago really needs him to be good this season, and it has been mostly so far.

On deck

The second game of the series will take place on Saturday evening at 6.15 p.m. CT. Cade Horton should give his MLB debut on the hill for the Cubs in a Bullpen game by Brad Keller, and the mets correspond to Tylor Megill in a matchup that is broadcast on Fox with a radio feed to 670 the score.
