The Lacrosse star of Ohio High School, Dylan Veselic, 16, dies after an injury during the game

A lacrosse star in Ohio High School died two days after he had suffered an injury during a game when the relatives reminded the teenager, who always had a “smile on his face”.

“He was friendly, hard worked and committed and consistently showed leadership, empathy and a positive attitude both in the field and in the classroom.”

“Dylan was a popular and respected young man who touched the life of many with his friendliness, his character and mind,” Jason Martin, director of the Bay High School, wrote in a statement on the Facebook page of the school district.

The neighbors in Dorf Bay, west of Cleveland, put Lacrosse sticks, hockey sticks and even football balls on their verands to honor Veselic.

“We are also deeply grateful to our neighboring communities for their expression of compassion and support,” added Martin. “The reaction and comments of the whole day by his teachers, coaches, teammates and classmates were a strong memory of the positive effects he had on the people around him, and the permanent brand that he left us all.”

A fundraising campaign for his family has collected almost 100,000 US dollars.

The school's sports department canceled a number of games from Thursday to Saturday after the death of Veselic.
