Tamil Nadu's cyber crowd wing has given the public a consultation about a recent increase in malicious content and, in relation to Operation Sindoor, spread out rapidly through WhatsApp, E -Mail and Social Media platforms.

Threat players use an increased public interest and the tension in the situation to judge unsuspecting people with malware, fake news and cyber fraud, said the additional general director of the police, Cyber ​​Crime Wing, Sandeep Mittal.

These cybercriminals circulate malicious content under the pretext of exclusive updates, conflict-related graphics or seeping film material, whereby many of these materials wear malware, spyware or links to phishing websites. They can be displayed in the form of links or even photographs from unknown numbers or on WhatsApp, telegram or other social media platforms.

The police advisor said that cybercriminals have embedded phishing links in news that comes from trustworthy sources to steal personal data from phishing websites that should look like legitimate news or state sources. They distribute APK files (Android package), which are identified as apps or tools (e.g. “Live War Updates App”), which can steal data after installation, access device files or block phones with ransomware and demand payment, according to the advice.
