Ecuador explains national grief for 11 by guerrillas killed troops

On Saturday, the President of Ecuador said three days of national grief about the death of 11 soldiers, of whom the army said they were amazed near the Colombian border by dissident Farc guerrillas.

The attack on Friday takes place in both countries, which were exported to the USA and Ecuadoran ports to the USA and in Europe with the cocaine trade in Colombia.

Around 80 soldiers carried out an operation to combat illegal mining in the Ecuadoranas amazon when they were attacked by the guerrillas, whereby 11 soldiers and a militant death and a soldier were wounded, the officers of Ecuadora shared.

The Ecuadoran military said in a statement on Friday that the “ambush” was carried out with explosives, grenades and firearms.

“We will find those responsible and you will end them,” said Ecuador's President Daniel Noboa on the Social Media platform X.

The national mourning period in honor of the murdered soldiers runs until Monday according to the presidency.

The office of the public prosecutor said that a criminal offshoot by Farc called Comandos de la Frontera or border commands was responsible for the attack in the eastern province of Orellana.

Some armed factions in Farc, once the largest guerrilla group in Latin America, rejected the historical peace agreement with the Colombian government in 2016.

These splinter groups refuse to put down their arms and pursue criminal activities such as illegal mining and drug trafficking.

Comandos de la Frontera is involved in drug trafficking in the border region of Colombia and Ecuador.

The public prosecutor said that the work had started to “recapture the corpses and to secure evidence on site of the attack”.

According to Mario Pazmino, a retired colonel and former head of the army secret service, the area is a “refuge for organized crimes”, in which Colombian, Ecuadoranian and Brazilian groups operate.

After the demobilization of Farc in 2017, the Comandos de la Frontera accelerated again in about a year and a half, and her expansion has accelerated, said Laura Bonilla, researcher of the peace and reconciliation foundation, said AFP.

“Neither the Colombian nor the Ecuadoranian state were able to guarantee a state presence that the territory protected against the presence of armed groups of security, justice or protects,” she added.

Colombian defense minister Pedro Sanchez said that the fatal attack on Friday showed the threat from organized armed groups.

“Your criminal violence is unacceptable and must be confronted with the full power of the state,” he wrote about X.

The Ecuadoran military said that “it would not rest until those responsible judge before the law and to be held accountable”.

– a killing every hour – –

At the beginning of the year, Ecuador once exaggerated made an average every hour when cartels fought for control over cocaine routes that went through the country's ports.

Despite President Noboa's hard policy, the country has the highest murder rate in Latin America.

There are 40,000 gang members in Ecuador, the president said – according to official figures, almost the 22,000 Narco people dealers and rebels in Colombia.

The bloodshed in Ecuador has frightened investors and tourists alike, fueled the economic discomfort and swelled the nation's rows to 28 percent of the population.

In Colombia, the Comandos de la Frontera are involved in peace negotiations with the authorities, with a further round of talks for later this month.

The United States apply for the delivery of the group's detainees for drug trafficking, according to Colombian officials.
