Man who was killed by Las Cruces remains unknown

The Task Force of the Officer Incident-Task Force continues its examination of a shootout by a police officer from Las Cruces who violated one person and another on May 8th.

The shootout took place around 6:30 a.m. in the 900 block of the Walnut Street opposite the Lynn Middle School.

According to the city of Las Cruces, the detectives of the Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) have not yet confirmed the identity of the man killed. The name of the injured man was not released by the police.

The LCPD officer was not injured in the incident. He was transferred to the paid administrative leave, which is a standard procedure for such an incident, a press release from the City Read.

A press conference for providing additional information about this incident is on Tuesday, May 20, at 11:30 a.m. in the council chambers in the town hall, 700 N. Main St.

“Due to the unfortunate time of this incident and with many of our department members, who according to Washington, DC, for the national police week to honor officer Jonah Hernandez, we will delay a press conference until after our return,” said Jeremy, head of the LCPD, Jeremy Story. “We appreciate the understanding of the community because we reconcile our commitment to the honor of our heroes with our responsibility to ensure transparency in this ongoing investigation.”

The national police week is May 11th to May 17th.

The Task Force for Officer Incidents includes investigators from New Mexico State Police, Las Cruces Police Department, the Sheriff Office by Dona Ana County and New Mexico State University Police. The investigators collect evidence and collect explanations that are handed over to the third public prosecutor.
