Parliament's spokesman, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, asked female members of the parliament (MP) to work together and work together to create an integrative and just society in which women play an important role in the design of the future and democracy of the country.

“Let us work together to strengthen our leadership and governance capacity, to promote integrative politicians and to promote transparency and accountability in governance,” emphasized the spokesman.

The two -day workshop aimed to enable female legislators to understand the technical aspects of the affirmative action act.

It was organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in cooperation with the Ghana Parliament with financial support for foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the British government and the development program of the United Nations (UNDP).

The participants were adopted by topics, including an overview of the affirmative action (gender equity) Act, 2024 (law 1121), political parties and representation of women (section 20 of the law), the committee for equality and reviewing examples of successful positive action policy in government, monitoring obstacle for the participation of women in the decision.

Strategic alliances

The spokesman asked the female MPs to take the workshop seriously, since it should enable them to promote integrative political design and promote transparency and accountability in government in order to improve their effectiveness in parliament.

“The adoption of the law on positive measures (gender equity), 2024 (law 1121), marks a significant milestone on the way to Ghana in the direction of equality of gender. This law offers a critical framework for increasing the representation of women and participation in decision -making processes,” explained Bagbin.

He recognized the cooperation between NCCE, Parliament, FCDO and UNDP in promoting the gender equality and strengthening of women and asked all participants, especially the female MPs, to actively commit themselves to share their experiences and learn from each other.

In turn, the chairman of NCCE, Kathleen Addy, promised the support of the NCCE to strengthen women in all areas of life, including female legislators, so that they can play their role in the country's governance system effectively to cross democracy.

She said that NCCE would intensify its public education into women's issues in order to increase their participation in the country's decision -making processes.

Constitutional amendment

The leader of the moderator's team, Sheila Minkah-Premo, a lawyer and convenience of the Bill coalition of the positive campaign in their closing remarks, was concerned that Ghana as a country was a constitutional change to qualify the qualification of parliament in Article 93 and 94.

The UNDP representative, Dr. Edward Ampratwum said that the same participation and leadership of women in political and public life are of essential importance for the achievement of the goals for sustainable development by 2030.
