The little -known musician richer than Taylor Swift and Beyoncé with a fortune of 1 billion US dollars

If you imagine the richest musicians in the world, you will probably immediately think of Taylor Swift, Sir Paul McCartney or Power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z.

A name that probably does not come to mind is Herb Alpert, but the jazz artist is on the list of 10 richest musicians via Bono, Selena Gomez and Queen.

According to Esquire, the 90-year-old star has a net assets of $ 1.25 billion (939,000,000 GBP), only shy ahead of Madonna, which is $ 1.26 billion (£ 947,000,000).

The California trumpeter, singer, songwriter and plate producer is known in the world of jazz after publishing 28 albums, which were published on the US Billboard 200, five of which reached first place.

Alpert is the only musician who has ever reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 as a singer and instrumentalist, and was received 14 platinum and 15 gold albums.

The conductor has sold a whopping 72 million records worldwide and has several awards, including eight Grammys, a Tony Award and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

He was included in the Rock'n'roll Hall of Fame in 2006 and honored Barack Obama with the National Medal of Arts six years later.

In the 1960s he headed the Herb Alpert and Tijuana-Messing and founded A&M Records in 1962 with Jerry Moss.

It became one of the largest record labels in North America and signed Janet Jackson, Sting, The Carpenters, Liza Minelli and many more.

In 1989 he sold A&M Records for $ 500 million (£ 375,826,000) to Polygram, a subsidiary of Philips.

Alpert and Moss later received an additional $ 200 million (£ 150,330,000) after Polygram violated the conditions of the business.

Outside of music, he has various philanthropic activities, including the Herb Alpert Foundation and the Alpert Awards in the Arts in the 1980s, which help to support youth and art education and environmental issues.

He and his second wife, the singer Lani Hall, also donated millions to the University of California to support the teaching of the arts.

The musician has three children – Dore, 64, and Eden (58) with his first wife Sharon Mae Lubin and Aria (48) with Hall.

When Alpert spoke to Billboard last year, he said how he said to his sister Mimi, 98, said that he would take the street again.
