Derek Carr 'Saints' of the Saints' retirement at the age of 34 from NFL after an injury after talking to the woman

A month after a reported shoulder injury had injured his status for the 2025 season in the air, Derek Carr withdraws from the NFL at the age of 34.

In a statement in which he announced his retirement, Carr said that he made the decision “after thinking about prayer” and after the discussion of the situation with his wife Heather.

“After thinking about prayer and in discussion with Heather, I decided to withdraw from the National Football League,” said Carr. “We have been blessed for more than 11 years, and we are grateful and humble from this experience forever. It is difficult to find the right words to thank all teammates, trainers, management, ownership, team officials and in particular fans who have made this trip so special. The world has meant the world to us.”

An explanation of the New Orleans Saints in connection with Carr's announcement found that he started to experience pain in his right shoulder while increasing his preparation for the 2025 season.

The subsequent medical scans showed that Carr “suffered a Labralriss and also had significant degenerative changes to his rotator cuff”.

The saints found that their medical staff together with the representatives of Carr and independent medical experts determined their best way forward, and this operation was an option, but there was “no guarantee that Derek would return to the strength, function and performance of the game to which he was used to”.

Ian Rapoport from NFL Network originally reported on April 11 that Carr had to deal with a shoulder injury that made him unsafe in the next season.

According to Katherine Terrell from ESPN, Carr confirmed the injury during a guest sermon in Church LV in Las Vegas on April 27 and criticized fan and media speculation about its availability.

“I have an MRI report to prove this. The team knows about it, we were in constant communication,” said Carr. “It is not wrong, we find out and we will continue with it.”

Despite the use of a second round for Tyler Shough, General Manager of Saints, Mickey Loomis, said reporters after the last day of the draft that Carr would be the starter if he were healthy.

Instead, the saints with Shough, Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener will go down in their program outside of the season as a top three quarterbacks, unless they try to bring someone else as a free.

In the meantime, Carr will end his career earlier than anyone expected. Before last season, he was one of the most durable quarterbacks in the NFL, limited him to 10 games as a hand and sloping injuries.

Carr started at least 15 games in each of his first 10 seasons. He suffered a broken fibula in week 16 of the 2016 campaign for the Oakland Raiders, who held him for the last game of the regular season and their playoff defeat against the Houston Texans.

The Raiders originally selected Carr in the second round of the 2014 draft. He spent nine seasons with the franchise and became her all -time leader for Yards (35,222), touchdowns (217) and quarterback (91.8).

After the Raiders Carr published in February 2023, he signed the following month with the saints as Free Agent. The Fresno State Alaun threw 6,023 yards, 40 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 27 starts in the last two seasons.

Carr will occupy his career in both Passing Yards (41,245) and outdated touchdowns (257, with Joe Flacco).
