Hectic amber – death becomes your album review

This album didn't seduce me. It confiscated Me.

In a second I sip lukewarm coffee – think about e -mails, laundry, the usual tedium – and then Bloodbath Hits, and I'm no longer in my kitchen. I am somewhere else. Something else. Maybe on my knees. Or burn alive. It's hard to say.

Elizabeth's voice sounds as if she had clinked out of the earth with bleeding hands. It is not carried out; It is endured. It does not provide any texts – it hurls them like broken teeth. And I – idiotic creature that I am – keep it in my mouth.

Guitars come in growl. Not “narrow”, not “technically”. They bend. They are obsessed. There is this moment – Midway through “Jolly Jane” I think – where everything collapses in this groove that feels like someone who presses hard between her shoulder blades. And for a breathless, Too-short worst view … I feel safe. I hate it.

The album does not build up. It dragged. Like a body. One track to the next, faded and angry. Sometimes it even tries to be beautiful, but only as lightning is – Sudden, violent and probably fatal. The title track did something to me. I won't describe it. I don't want to.

The drums are – well. They don't play. They impose. It is like you know exactly how many you can take before something risst is to be pushed down a staircase. There is a percussive moment during In the Garden of the bones (Around 2:17, I think?) That was physically snapped. I don't usually do that.

And the topics – God's, soldiers, anger, flame – can feel too much. But they don't. Because they are not symbols. They are weapons. There is no mythology here. Only history with exposed teeth.

Randnote: I tried to do dinner afterwards. Could not. I only stood in the sink with my hands and let the water run too hot.

It's not just an album. It is a punishment. A reward. A memory.
That you are still raw inside. That can still achieve you.
Maybe – –Perhaps– You just want to be destroyed a little.

I do. Apparently.

(Also: My neighbor hit three times during the wall “Gore Candy.” So. This is a five-star track.)
