In Indiana Death Row inmate Appeal to the US Court of Justice weeks before the planned execution

(WPTA) – A man in Indiana's death cell because he killed a police officer in Beech Grove, appeals to the US Court of Justice weeks before his planned execution.

Benjamin Ritchie's petition takes place almost a month after the Supreme Court of Indiana executed him on May 20.

According to the submission, the Ritchie's court did not take into account ineffective lawyers in court and in other questions about the conviction.

Ritchie's lawyers say that the former lawyer had not examined the evidence in connection with brain damage by a partially fetal alcohol syndrome with which ritchie was diagnosed.

“While the jury was drawn to the fact that Ritchie's mother drank during pregnancy, no evidence of fetal alcohol syndromes was introduced,” says the registration.

In a last appeal for grace, Ritchie appeared on Monday, May 5th, in front of the Indiana Parole Board.

The board will have a further grace negotiation for public comments in Indiana Government Center South Auditorium next Monday, May 12th in Indiana Government Center South Auditorium.

The board of directors will testify in favor of the gnesthood from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and testimony from mercy from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

According to both hearings, the board will make a recommendation, but a final decision on grace about whether Ritchie's death penalty will live in prison without probation will ultimately be taken over to the governor.

There is no schedule for the board or brown to issue opinions.

Ritchie was sentenced to death in 2002 for September 29, 2000 and shot the death of OFC. Bill Toney.

According to court documents, the underlying crime began as a police persecution of a stolen van. Toney followed Ritchie on foot and finally shot four shots on the police officer who did not survive the shootout.

Ritchie and six other men remain in the death cell of the state in the Indiana State Prison.
