6 years after the death of the former university student, family members are still looking for answers

Waterloo, Iowa (KCRG) – On April 28, 2019, Micalla Rettinger died when a ball came through the window while driving on Highway 218.

The Waterloo Police Department says that it has hundreds of leads where the ball has come from since then.

It has been over six years since Micalla Rettinger and her boyfriend were shot through her car. Today her father is still looking for justice

“So that's my update. So we are pretty much only in the morning, her death,” said Steve Rettinger.

He says that the Waterloo Police Department still has its car as proof. The department retains it while they are further examined.

“We keep all types of evidence for this type of cases, even if we would have a suspect and a conviction, we would basically keep the evidence forever,” said captain Jason Feaker from Waterloo Police Department.

When asked why such an investigation can take more than six years, Captain Feaker said that they had hundreds of leads who require a follow -up.

“Studies like this can take months, years and decades, depending on what the examination is conducting,” said CPT. Feaker. “All information that leads to the examination in order to have a closure.”

The police offer a reward of 58,000 US dollars for information that concludes the case. Everyone with information should call the police under 319-291-4340 or Cedar Valley Crime Stopper at 855-300-8477.
