Austin Police publishes the body camera video of officials who shoot armed man

Austin's police released the body camera shots of officials who shoot a man at the beginning of this week during a traffic stop by North Austin.

What we know:

The police from Austin says that on Wednesday, May 7th, around 12.40 p.m. Jake Pitcher and Ryne Kirchberg would have taken over a driver because he hadn't used indicators on the East Braker Lane.

There was a driver, a male passenger and a small child in the car.

The male passenger, who was later identified as a 26-year-old Branson Berreles, told the police that he had no identification and was asked to step out of the car.

When officer Kirchberg tried to strike Berreles, he pushed the officer and ran away. When the officer reached for him, Berreles grabbed his covenant and tried to pull out a firearm.

Both officers fired several shots and met Berreles. He was taken a hospital and treated for his injuries.

A weapon was found in the area in which he reached. Austin's police say she also found several magazines.

Nobody else was hurt.

Both officials were transferred to administrative leave, which is the department protocol.

Officer Pitcher has been on the force for almost two years. Officer Kirchberg has been a member of the department for four and a half years.

Charges against Berrelen stands pending.

Austin's police say that there are two simultaneous investigations against the shootout.

One of them is a criminal investigation by the APD Special Investigations Unit in cooperation with the public prosecutor's office of Travis County.

The other is an administrative examination of the internal affairs of the police authority as part of the supervision of the Office for Police Supervision.
