Two at the west side of Detroit killed in the shootout, the children grazed by the ball

The shootout occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on Friday, May 9th, in the 15700 block of the Patton Street and, according to the main crime of the Detroit Police Department Rebecca McKay.

Two adults were killed at the shootout, and an 11-year-old child was among the injured.

A ball grazed the child, who is in a stable state and is expected to recover, said McKay during a press officer on Friday.

“We will continue our strategies in the course of summer and we warn everyone who uses violence to solve their conflicts,” she said. “Under the leadership of chief Todd Bettison, we are very confident that we have strategies to combat violence.”

A suspect is currently in custody. McKay said she believed that witnesses saw the suspect fled from the scene, and a witness stated that the suspect might have been involved in the shootout.

A pistol and a rifle were used when shooting when two caliber of list housings were found at the scene, said McKay.

The police still have to find out what caused the incident and it is unclear which, if at all, existing relationship between the people involved.

It was assumed that the shootout is an isolated incident between the two groups involved, and McKay said she didn't think there is a current threat to the public.

An investigation by the shootout is currently ongoing.

“We are working hard to identify the people who are involved in this incident,” said McKay.
