Legislators in Florida accuse the conditions of the ice facilities for the latest death, demand calculation obligation

After the death of a migrant in a broward facility, the legislators in Florida make concerns about overcrowding and medical care in ice centers.

The Florida Congressman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-20) and Congressman Frederica Wilson (FL-24) toured the Broward Transitional Center on May 2.

The visit coincides with the death of 44-year-old Haitian immigrant Marie Anlaise, who died on April 25 when he was detained in the broward facility.

Information received by CBS Miami said that all prisoners receive comprehensive medical care in their entire detention, including 24-hour emergency services.

However, the legislators say that there was a relationship of a doctor per 500 prisoners after visiting the facility and spoken to employees and migrants detained.

In addition, Wilson's congress member stated that the legislators spoke to several prisoners who described sleep on the ground due to the overcrowding in the facility.

After the MEP Wilson left the facility, she held a press conference in which it says:

I have no confidence in the management of the facility or the ice. They do not even see the immigrants imprisoned there as humans and did not want to answer any questions about Marie. But Marie dies in the Broward Transitional Center is only an example of what will continue to happen if we have this administration deactivated. It doesn't have to be that way. This is wrong and as a people we have to and can do it better. We are an immigrant society, especially in South Florida.

An ICE officer announced CBS12 partners at CNN that their allegations are “deliberate attempts to discredit ice”.

On May 1, the Member of the congregation Sheila Chera Chera McCormick, Congressman Frederica Wilson and the entire Democratic Congress delegation in Florida sent a letter to the US secretary for home protection, Kristi Noem, who demanded a transparent investigation of Marie Blaise's death.

Since the beginning of the Trump administration, ICE has reported that it has arrested over 66,000 people without legal status and deported more than 65,000.
