I was hired last week to speak to the Sacred Hearts Garden Festival.

Usually there are many garden tours at this time of year, but given the fact that Hurricane Helene has damaged so many properties and gardens, this year's offers were held in the Sacred Heart Cultural Center in the city center of Augusta.

It was an honor to speak to me to be asked. I am not a gardener, so I couldn't offer anything about gardening. However, I shared my knowledge of terrace and outer designs.

If you design your outdoor area, create a checklist for what is important to you that include the following.

Cook. The boys love to grill! Regardless of whether it is hot dogs and burgers for family or steaks, cooking outdoors has become very popular. Gas crickets are popular because they are burned clean and clean up less when they are finished.

I like the local company Rec Tec. It is a pellet grill that you can use to grill or bake!

Swimming pool. Who doesn't love to jump into a pool on a hot day. Regardless of whether you swim, play water games or just wade or swim, it can be very refreshing!

A fire feature. This can be a fireplace, fireplace or maybe even some gas lanterns. Fire always offers a nice element.

Seats. There are so many great options to consider if you think about your seating arrangement.
