Pope Leo XIV Will give his first Sunday at noon since he was the first Pope born in the USA in the 2,000-year history of the Catholic Church.

The 69-year-old Augustinian missionary, born in Chicago, has a few days ahead of him when he takes over his official papal tasks.

On Sunday he will deliver the blessing from Saint Peter Basilica's loggia and will visit an audience with the media on Monday in the Vatican Auditorium.

What's next:

Leo will be officially installed on May 18 as a Pope in a mass and leads via his first general audience on May 21.

In the meantime, he asked all Vatican leaders who had technically lost their job when Pope Francis died on April 21st until he finally decides whether to confirm it.

Prevost was consecrated in 1982 and began his pastoral and academic service in Peru in 1985, where he worked in roles such as Chancellor, Seminar Rector, Canon Law Professor and Justicial Vikar.

In 1999, Prevost was elected to the Augustinian provincial priority in Chicago, and just a few years later he was in front of the general of the global order until 2013.

He then returned to Peru at the request of Pope Francis to act as an apostolic administrator – and later the bishop – of the diocese of Chiclayo.

In January 2023, Pope Francis appointed the Prefects of the Dicastery for Bischöfe, a mighty Vatican role that was responsible for episcopal appointments worldwide.

He was appointed cardinal in September of the same year.
