Snl Mocks Pope's death suggests that VP Vance can be responsible in shocking sketch

Live on Saturday evening“It's no stranger if he makes fun of religion, but his latest sketch draws criticism because he suggests that Vice President JD Vance could have played a role in the death of Pope Francis.

The episode opened with a sentimental music number that was devoted to mothers before Mother's Day. The song was abruptly interrupted by a parody of President Donald Trump, played by actor James Austin Johnson. The show's opening monologue has been concentrating on the president for weeks.

“I am back into all aspects of her life,” said Johnson's Trump when he entered the stage. He quickly shifted the tone by commenting on the Catholic Church in the recent choice of a new Pope.

“We have an American Pope, Chicago style, no ketchup,” he joked about Pope Leo XIV, who was born in Chicago, Illinois. “But we like Pope Leo. We hope that he is doing what we want. The Pope should do that.”

The sketch took a darker turn when the parody of Trump implied that Vice President Vance might have had something to do with the death of Pope Francis.

“Otherwise I have to send JD back to do his thing. Do you remember that JD hit the Pope last time?” He said and referred to the fact that Vance Pope Francis met only one day before the Pope's death.

In fact, Vance was the last known world leader who met with Pope Francis and visited him on Easter Sunday last month. The Pope died the next day.

Vance blamed the sketch for a number of international crises, with Johnson's Trump said: “He has the Meidas touch, but for bad things. He hits the Pope? Dead.

After the news of Pope Francis's death, Vance expressed his condolences to X, which was previously known as Twitter.

“I was glad to see him yesterday, although he was obviously very sick,” Vance wrote. “But I will always remember him when he was really nice in the early days of Covid, which he gave in the early days. It was really nice. May God rest his soul.”

Nevertheless, the time of the meeting triggered conspiracy theories and jokes online. John F. Kennedy's grandson even wrote to his over a hundred thousand X supporters: “Okay, JD killed the Pope.”

Vance did not react directly to the online speculation, but in an interview with Fox News Digital, he thought about the meeting as a profound moment.

“I was one of the very first world leaders who actually meet with the Pope,” said Vance. “I took one of my relatively junior employees who is a pious Catholic and I looked at him when he wanted to meet the Pope, and he cries home how important this, not just this man, but this institution is over a billion people worldwide.”

After the meeting, Vance flew to India for a diplomatic visit. He learned about Pope Francis' death after he had landed.

The SNL sketch did not stop at the Vance Pope connection. It mocked Catholicism itself and compared religion with popular institutions of American institutions.

“We love Catholics,” said Johnson's Trump. “It is one of the stronger Christian organizations together with the Salvation Army, and I want to say Chick-Fil-A.”

Throughout the season, the long-standing Sketch comedy show repeatedly questioned President Trump's faith and compared Trump for her Easter Theme episode with Jesus.
