New Orleans (WVUE) – Two drivers were killed and arrested after separate accidents on early Saturday (May 10), in which drivers were involved who fled the scene, said the New Orleans police.

The first hit-and-run death occurred at 12:17 p.m. at the High Rise Bridge in New Orleans East.

According to the NOPD, a driver drove east when she got a flat tire. The woman stopped and got a replacement tire from her trunk when a downturning down into the back of her vehicle smashed and crushed it.

The driver of the pickup fled on foot.

The police have not disclosed the identity or the age of the victim and did not state whether the identity of the suspect is known through vehicle registration documents.

The second fatal hit-and-run followed less than two hours later.

According to the NOPD, a driver was involved in a traffic accident at the Crescent City Connection Bridge to the west of the US 90b near Charles de Gaulle Drive at 2:05 a.m.

This driver, whose identity and age were not disclosed, climbed out of his damaged vehicle and “began to go towards the western bank in the traffic flow,” said the NOPD. He was hit by an unknown vehicle that fled the scene and died of his injuries.

The NOPD later announced the arrest of Donya Holmes, 31, in connection with the CCC incident. Holmes was booked with hit-and-run causers, said the department.

The NOPD announced that it will handle the examination of the high-rise and that the Louisiana State Police would examine the CCC hit and run.
