I am a conservative, not a Republican. Trump ruined the GOP

Political labels are important, but the rise of Maga makes it difficult for people to recognize the difference.

play

People often characterize me in my personal life as a Republican, so I would not describe myself. I am a conservative. I vote for conservative politics, not regardless of the Republican Party, to support at a certain moment.

I didn't vote for Donald Trump. I voted for a conservative.

For the typical person, especially those who are not glued to politics, these terms may not appear as different, but not all wings are conservative, and not all conservatives would call themselves Republicans.

This distinction is important to me and for the sake of accuracy. Political labels are important and members of the news media should strive for accuracy. The rise of Maga makes it difficult for people to recognize the difference.

Not all conservatives should be called Republicans

When I refer to conservatives, I refer to the group of Americans who are committed to saving the values of the American foundation. We are interested in maintaining the separation of powers, defending the constitution and defending individual freedom against tyranny, regardless of who is in office.

However, we do not prefer a liberal president. We only expect a Republican to be conservative.

The Republicans, on the other hand, are partisans whose views are formable and correspond to what the party believes at a certain point in time. Opinions could change quickly if they become an unpleasant political reality for Republicans.

For example, the Republicans could attack the American judicial system, in which conservatives know the importance of checks and balances.

For a long time, the goals of the Republican Party to drive a conservative agenda. That has changed in Trump's era. The conservatives had to observe how the Republicans allowed Trump and Maga to take over the party.

This new version of the Republican Party holds partisans that have no political principles, but rather bend backwards to justify Trump's actions, regardless of how they fit into a conservative worldview. If Trump's direction now affects the conservative principles, the GOP will adapt its platform to Trump – not the other way around.

For example, while conservatives have long held the contempt of tariffs and still criticize Trump's tariff suggestions, Republican partisans have no problem changing their opinion about tariffs to “own libraries”.

Many Republicans will probably lose the Trump economy now distributed. Conservatives are concerned.

Not all Republicans believe in conservative politics

Historically, conservatives have recognized the same guidelines that help prevent both sides from deviating too far from the political street. Trampling the restrictions on power, even if we mean on behalf of the political results with which we agree to open the door for others to do the same.

Republicans in power do not recognize this now. They pretend that they are in power forever, and as if a violation of the constitution can be justified by a just cause. They don't seem to worry about what will happen if Democrats get the power back and will probably do the same.

There is a growing group of people in American law that no longer believe in these principles, and with Trump in the White House, this faction is currently in power.

These people can be described as right. Their end goals are certainly political law in America, but the paths they want to go to reach them can impossible to be considered conservative.

Terms may seem insignificant, but they are important

The terms on the right and conservatively are often used by those synonymously. Even I sometimes slip out and refer to Republicans more generally than “conservative” and vice versa.

For a long time, these terms referred more or less to the same cohort of humans. However, since the realignment of American law continues, it becomes increasingly clear that the main force behind it is no longer a conservative movement.

The use of these terms is interchangeable for several reasons. On the one hand, it is only wrong, and in the news media we should try to be technically correct if we discuss political movements.

Another reason that is more relevant for conservative is that the merger of the terms is legitimized the new right as a movement that is oriented with our values. You are not.

In the same way as the term “liberal” for the entirety of the American left, the term “conservative” is likely to suffer the same fate.

I am not blind to republican, I agree to promote conservatism. It irritates me, told the least when the Maga movement is characterized as a conservative.

Political movements should be described for what they are, and American law does not pursue conservative politics or measures that our government system preserves. Experts should take note of this fact and adapt their terminology to precisely describe members of the law.
