Stephon Castle wins the NBA rookie of the year.

Stephon Castle made no secret: he wanted to be rookie of the year.

And he did it – with a big lead.

The San Antonio Spurs now have winners of the award, Victor Wembanyama and Castle this season. Castle was the fifth rookie in the history of Spurs, which scored more than 1,000 points.

It was one -sided in the vote. Castle received 92 first votes, with Zaccharia Risacher from The Atlanta Hawks and Jaylen Wells from The Memphis Grizzlies slightly occupied by Zaccharia Risacher. Risacher got five first place, Wells got the other three.

“When I stood with all the trust that I had in me as a player, that was definitely a goal of me from day 1,” said Castle to TNT, who broadcast the unveiling of the results. “I'm just glad I could do it.”

Castle's victory was the second time in more than half a century that a franchise with the top rookie apprenticeship was in a row. Minnesotas Andrew Wiggins (now from Miami) and Karl-Anthony Town (now from New York) were elected in 2015 and 2016 as new in the year.

The last instance of a team that was before: 1973 and 1974 when Bob McAdoo and Ernie Digregorio pulled it out for the Buffalo Braves.

“I'm so excited to see how he plays it,” said Chris Paul, Castle's Backcourt Mate this season in San Antonio. “The first thing I want to see in a team -mate or someone is how competitive they are. It will bring it further as a talent every day. And I immediately saw that he was competitive. I thought: 'Ok, cool. It'll be easy.'

Castle led all newcomers to points (1,190) and steals (74) this season. Risacher ended the strong and gorge of East Conference rookie of the month for both February and for March. Wells led all newcomers to the games (74) and 3-pointers (138).

Risacher, who comes from France like Wembanyama, wanted to win the NBA the first international players in successive years since Australia's Ben Simmons and Slovenia Luka Doncic in 2018 and 2019 since Ja Morant in 2020 as Memphis' first strike.

The Rookie of the Year Award was coordinated by a global committee of 100 writers and transmitters who cover the league shortly after the end of the regular season and hand over ballot papers.

Washington Alex Sarr was fourth in the vote, followed by Memphis' Zach Edey in Fifth and Miamis Kel'el goods in sixth place. Jared McCain from Philadelphia, who was in front of the injured of a big start – and Matas Buzelis in Chicago took seventh place in the vote.

The other awards that were part of this coordination process and have already presented their results: Cleveland Evan Mabley winner of the defender of the year, New York's Jalen Brunson winner of the Clutch player of the year and Boston Payton Pritchhard won the sixth man of the year.

On Wednesday, the most improved player – Cade Cunningham from Detroit, Dyson Daniels from Atlanta or Ivica Zubac from the Los Angeles Clippers – will be announced.

Other awards from the league since the end of the regular season: Stephen Curry des Golden State, the team-mate of the Twyman Stokes team of the year, and Warriors teammate Draymond Green won the Hustle Award.
