Streets upwards; 138 killed on May 9th says ITA

Kingston, Jamaica – In the past four weeks there has been a strong increase in fatal traffic accidents, which drove the number of people killed on the streets of the nation from Friday, May 9th.

The deaths resulted from 124 fatal accidents, the Iceland Traffic Authority (ITA), which was published in her daily crash report published on Friday.

According to ITA, deaths have decreased by nine percentage points compared to the previous year, while fatal accidents have dropped by five percent in a similar period in 2024.

Motorcyclists are still the list of killed category roads, which were killed with 40 or 29 percent. By May 9th, pedestrians with 32 deaths or 23 percent, followed by drivers of private motor vehicles with 29 deaths or 21 percent.

During the period, seventeen private motor vehicles were killed, which made 12 percent of the total number of deaths.

In the meantime, seven pedalycyclists, five frack passengers and four passengers were killed by commercial vehicles.

Combined, in need of protected road users (pedestrians, pedalcyclers, motorcyclists and iron passengers) accounts for 61 percent of all street deaths this year.

Men make up 85 percent, while the females have made 15 percent of all deaths since the beginning of the year.
