17-year-old killed when shooting Ferris Park-NBC 5 Dallas-Fort

Officials in Ellis County say that a 17-year-old was dead after shooting in a neighborhood park on Saturday afternoon.

It happened in Jerry Watson Park am Donna Drive in Ferris, and the investigators identified the victim as Sir Dixon. The shootout worked many in the municipality of Ellis County.

Sirens, screams and confusion could be heard on surveillance videos in the moments after the fatal shooting.

People who live on Donna Drive said their Saturday afternoon had been interrupted by sudden shots.

“I was cooked in the back yard and heard two shots and I said that is really loud,” said Scotty Parker. “And about 45 seconds later I heard some people screaming and screaming. I went out and saw how people run in this way.”

On Sunday, the Ferris Department of Public Safety NBC 5 announced that the incident began as a big struggle between teenagers and young adults.

At the scene, the investigators said that 17-year-old Sir Dixon received a weapon from an unknown female suspect.

They said Dixon had been shot in the neck by a young suspect and died.

The police said a man then picked up Dixon's weapon and shot another young person to hurt him.

The investigators say that both alleged shooters are in custody who is charged with young people because of murder that adults with a fatal weapon because of serious physical injury.

The investigators are looking for the female suspect who is accused of having given the weapon.

“Shocking, it's very, very shocking,” said Parker. “When I woke up this morning, this would never have thought in a million years that this would have happened.”

A neighbor who didn't want her face to be shown in front of the camera said she was sad to see this kind of violence with teenagers.

“It is sad to see how they throw their life away,” said Shantae Garnett. “And I'm sure it was nothing, it is always nothing about nothing, so it's very discouraging.”

In the course of the investigation, some said that the security damage in their community could have been worse.

“People say it can happen everywhere, it can happen anywhere,” said Parker.

In an explanation on Sunday afternoon, Ferris City Manager Brooks asked Williams for “healing, accountability and unity” after the shootout.

“We not only have to rebuild security, but also trust,” said Williams. “Not just order, but also belonging. Not just politics, but connection.”
