Wrong: This video does not show the last funeral rites of Pope Francis | by Pesacheck | May, 2025

This post on X (formerly Twitter) with a video in which it is claimed to show Pope Francis' last “funeral rites” is wrong.

The clip, which shows in a procession with a hood with hooded person, is shown as the “burial rite” of the late Catholic Pope, which died on April 21, 2025 at the age of 88.

Pesacheck carried out an inverted image search in the clip, and the results show that they do not represent the funeral rites of Pope Francis. A video of people in similar clothing was published online before Pope Francis was declared dead by the Vatican.

In the comment area of the clip, a user pointed out that the film material comes from the Spanish Holy Week, also known as Semana Santa, which occurs during the week of Christian Easter celebrations.

The search also showed that this celebration is popular in southern Spain, especially in Seville, Burgos, Zamora, Cádiz and Málaga.

Similarly, another video that claims to show rituals to mourn Pope Francis was wrong.

In the video, a person who speaks in Luganda provides in the funeral of the Pope, why carrots, taxi drivers and onions are involved in the pope's funeral. However, the video was online before the Pope (here and here) was announced dead, with Hashtags pointing out that it shows a holy week in Spain.

Pesacheck viewed a post on X with a video in which it is claimed to show the last funeral rites of the late Pope Francis, and find it wrong.
