On this Mother's Day 2025, the California Employment Development Department (EDD) is highlighted

What you need to know: While we are celebrating mothers on this Mother's Day, the Department of Employment Development is reminiscent of the Californians of the valuable financial support, which is available by the state's first family vacation program paid in the nation. We encourage the workers to visit paid family vacation so that mothers learn more, including a video of supporting a mother about the support of her daughter when she needed the most urgent.

May 11, 2025 – Sacramento – Mothers make memories that take forever. On this Mother's Day, the Department of Employment Development (EDD), honors mothers and mothers throughout California by highlighting the advantages of the plant program (California Paid Family Leave) (PFL). Over 20 years ago, California presented this innovative program with which authorized workers were able to receive benefits for up to eight weeks in order to support/adopt with a new baby or a child, to take care of a sick family member or to support a military family member while serving our foreign country.

“Paid family vacation helps California workers to prioritize their families and to be there for the most important moments.” says EDD director Nancy Farias.

Since California started the PFL program for the nation in 2004, EDD has paid employees over $ 17 billion in benefits to cover the loss of wages when they need time to support their families. EDD has processed millions of claims because the PFL program has been expanded by more than 566 percent since the start of the program.

Pfl-advantages are used most frequently by the parents if they combine with a new child, the total claims of the binding have more than tripled since the beginning of the PFL program. The PFF claims have also increased for people who take care of seriously ill family members, and the authorization has expanded to support family members during a military commitment abroad.

For new claims in 2025, California increased the paid family vacation and disability insurance of up to 90 percent of regular payment for many employees – a landmark that makes it easier for the Californians to take the time to maintain relatives.

California paid family vacation program at a glance:

  • The employees who are recorded by the program pay for services by a deduction found as “Casdi” on their paystubs.
  • Pfl-advantages can be divided at once or over a period of 12 months.
  • Pregnant mothers can receive disability benefits for a normal pregnancy for up to four weeks before they pass before their expected due date for the binding time.
  • Fathers can also be justified for PFF advantages.
  • Parents who welcome children through adoption or care can also qualify.
  • EDD offers an online calculator with which employees can estimate their potential amount of performance.

On this Mother's Day, EDD encourages expectant and new mothers as well as those who care for family members in order to learn more about this important advantage program.
