Adult, toddler killed in the i-70 crash near Claysville

An adult and a small child were killed on Sunday afternoon in an accident with two vehicles on Interstate 70 near the output of Claysville.

The state police said that a passenger sedan was on the highway to the west when the driver lost control and shortly after 1 p.m.

The adult passenger in the car died at the scene, while the toddler was flown to the UPMC Washington Hospital from the medical helicopter and declared dead an hour later, said the forensic doctor of Washington County, Timothy Warco. The forensic doctor said that the two adults in the vehicle had not worn seat belts at the time of the crash, and the child was not on a car seat. Her identities were not immediately published, while the investigators worked on notifying the family.

The driver of the tractor -trailer was not injured, while the driver of the car was flown to a hospital in Pittsburgh with the medical helicopter for treatment.

The collision broke the car side of the car and brought the big rig to a house on the side of the highway in Donegal Township. The house in the 61 Donegal Ave. seemed to have only minimal damage, and the owner, who must not be identified, said nobody inside was injured.

The eastern lanes of the I-70 near the output of Claysville were closed for hours on Sunday, while the state police and the forensic doctor examined. The fire brigade of Claysville, West Alexander, Taylorstown and North Franklin supported at the scene.
