4 women who were brought to death by tigers in Chandrapur | Mumbai News

Nagpur: In a tragic turn, four women lost their lives on Saturday and Sunday in two separate tiger attacks in the Chandrapur district. Three of the victims were killed by a single tiger, while the fourth woman fell victim to another tiger in another incident in the same district.

According to reports, three women were seriously injured on Saturday afternoon in a single attack on death and another seriously injured tiger. The dismembered corpses were discovered in the forest near Mendha-Mal village in the Seldewahi forest area about 200 km from Nagpur. Wildlife experts believe that this is the first documented case in the region in which one tiger three lives and another violated in an attack.

According to preliminary reports, a group of women had ventured into the forest to collect Tendu leaves than the tiger attacked. Tendu Leaf is used to manufacture “Beedi”. The deceased are identified as Kanta Budhaji Chaudhary, 65, their daughter-in-law Shubhangi Manoj Chaudhary (28) and Rekha Shalik Shende, 50, residents of the village of Mendha-Mal. The fourth woman, Vandana Gajbhiye, who has currently injured herself in a hospital, explains that Jitendra Ramgaonkar, the chief conservator of the forests.

The incident came to light when the women did not return home in the afternoon. The affected villagers alerted the Ministry of Forestry and prompted a joint search operation by forest officials and locals. The mutilated bodies were later found in Dongergaon, about 8 km from the city of Sindewahi. The forest staff immediately took custody for the corpses and sent them to Mortem after the formalities of the examination.

The forest authorities have used camera traps in the region to confirm the identity of the tigor involved. “As soon as the specific animal is identified, we will officially apply for permission to calm it down and to conquer it,” said a high -ranking forest official.

In another incident, the victim is identified as Vimala Shinde (65) from the village of Nagla in Mul Tehsil near the Tadoba Tiger Reserve and near Sh wasevwahi. The woman was killed by another tiger on Sunday morning when she collected Tendu leaves on the way.

Both attacks have triggered widespread fear and anger among the locals. The villagers organized a protest and demanded immediate measures to catch the tigers and prevent other tragedies.

The local MLA and the former minister Vijay Wadettiwar described the situation as alarming. “The authorities have ignored repeated claims to shift dangerous tigers. Someone must be held accountable for these avoidable deaths,” he said.

The Chandrapur district, in which the renowned Tadoba-undhari Tiger Reserve lives, has long been fighting with escalating conflicts by the human conscience. Over 130 tigers and several leopards stripes in the Tadoda Tiger Sanctuary. In Maharashtra, more than 225 people have been killed in wild animal attacks in the past three years, with Chandrapur the majority of the tiger deaths.

With this latest incident, the wildly living death in Chandrapur has 16 years old for 2025. Last year 29 such deaths were reported. 27 of them were caused by tigers. In 2023 the number was 25. Since then, the forest officials have increased the patrol and issued consultations that warn the locals about the entry into forested areas.
