Child in a stable state after electric bike accident in Palm Beach Gardens

A child was taken to a hospital on Saturday evening after an electric bike accident in Palm Beach Gardens, the police said.

The collision occurred near the intersection of prosperity farms and Gardens Parkway around 6.45 p.m.

Feather Evans, a resident who lives next to the intersection, said her daughters were redirected from the scene for hours.

“They said there were several police officers and an ambulance and a lot of excitement at the intersection for almost five hours,” said Evans.

The police confirm that the child who drives with the e-bike was taken to a local hospital and is in a stable state.

Evans said, unfortunately, crashes at this intersection were not uncommon.

“They accelerate here, the e-bikes, we saw it,” said Evans. “It's just sad.”

WPTV has recently reported several bicycle and e-bike incidents in Palm Beach County with teenagers.

In February, Landon CogginPresent 13, from See Worth, died when he drove near the Woodlands Middle School.

Then in March, Rico RoundtreePresent 12, was killed when he drove an e-bike in Jupiter.

WPTV discovered in 2023 that 29 people with e-bike injuries in Palm Beach County were brought in trauma centers. The following year, in 2024, this number doubled to 66.

The crashes let Evans demand for change in their neighborhood.

“It will need something terrible to happen before we can get some speeds or something here so that these people stop accelerating,” said Evans. “These are life they know. We have to be more careful.”
