Audi has announced a recall of approximately 90,000 Q5 quattro and Q5 sportsback-quattro vehicles from 2022-2024 in the USA. The cause is a possible loosening of the cylinder head cover screws. This error could lead to motor oil leaks and increase the likelihood of fire.

Here is what we know

As the manufacturer explains, different attractions were used during the engine construction process, and “in some cases a reliable and long -lasting connection cannot be guaranteed”. In May 2023, the company received the first complaints about oil leaks, according to which it initiated a technical investigation.

The engineers found that the screws may have had excavations that occurred during the manufacture. These defects damaged the seating area of the cylinder head cover, which led to a loss of the tightening torque and the resulting leaks.

In January 2024, Audi sent a technical bulletin to the dealers who advise them to check the cover screws and replace them if necessary. In May 2024, however, the company received complaints about “thermal incidents” overheating or fire caused by oil leaks.

So far, Audi has registered 2,539 warranty claims for leaks and 11 reports on thermal incidents. However, the manufacturer believes that the problem does not affect more than 5 percent of the cars in the called back.

The notification letters from Recalls will be sent on July 8, 2025. If necessary, retailers will replace the installation screws of the cylinder head cover. The internal recall number of Audi is 15ZK.

Previously, the German car manufacturer with four rings was forced to recall 44,000 vehicles in the USA because the digital instrument cluster separated the connection.
