Two injuries and one killed in the fatal crash of Jackson Parish

With the kind permission of the Louisiana State Police

On Sunday, May 11, 2025, shortly before 12:00 p.m., the soldiers of the Louisiana State Police Troop F began an accident with two vehicles on the Riser Road north of La Highway 148.

The preliminary investigation showed that a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu from 2015, which was powered by 25-year-old Janihajious Phillips, drove north on the Riser Road. At the same time, a 2024 Nissan Versa traveled south on the Riser Road. For reasons still examined, Phillips turned left, crossed the center line and hit the Nissan frontally in the southern lane of the Riser Road.

Tate, who was the passenger at the front in Malibu and was unrestrained, suffered deadly injuries and died at the scene. Phillips, which was unhindered, received serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in a regional hospital.

The driver of the Nissan, who was properly held back, received serious injuries and was taken to a regional hospital. Impairment is a suspected factor in this crash. Routine toxicological samples were collected and are submitted for analysis. This crash continues to be examined.

The Louisiana State Police would like to remind all drivers that driving and failing a seat belt can have fatal consequences. If you feel different, you drive differently. Alcohol, prescription drugs and other medication can affect your ability to safely operate a vehicle by affecting visual, judgment, coordination and response time.

In addition, the decision of not wearing a seat belt increases the risk of serious injury or death in the event of a crash. Drivers are asked to make responsible decisions. Always drive soberly, always strap on and always plan ahead.
