“He was our craftsman,” said Ivey Hedden, a neighbor. “The whole dead end knows him as, you know, he helped everyone in the neighborhood.”

“I was at home from lunch and we heard a car turned down and we heard it back,” said Scott Kelley. “And suddenly I literally mean seconds later, they heard the effects. The whole house vibrated.”

Kelley says they didn't know who was involved in the accident, but he said they learned that it was their neighbors and his two children.

“And they were here for the weekend to spend time with their father,” he said.

On Sunday, the neighbors built a monument that continued to grow when people came over to leave souvenirs and show their respect.

“It is one of the saddest things I've ever experienced,” said Hedden. “I never want to see something like that.”

The police said that the driver of 20-year-old Durango, Adarius Hayes, was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to the school's website, Hayes is at the Miami University.

The police say that no driver showed signs of impairment.
