For over a year now, a protective dog has stood from the limits of his kennel from the same heartbreaking view – and he has started to demand a tribute.

Brutus had already experienced more than its appropriate share of rejection when he arrived at the Humane Society of Central Illinois (HSCI). “Brutus was easily found in our area,” said Nicole Monson from HSCI Newsweek. “When we contacted his registered owner, we learned that she had moved to Tennessee and did not return to him.”

A video published on the HSCI TIKTOK channel offers a snapshot at how it feels, and thousands have seen the clip since its publication last week. It shows Brutus, who tries to take eye contact with everyone who comes by in the hope that they pay some attention to him.

Monson said the video was made to “bring light on how long time in a kennel can feel like for dogs who watch how others go while they keep waiting”. She said, “We do our best to enrich his days, but nothing replaces a stable home environment.”

The sad reality is that protective dogs have the smallest time window in which a visitor is impressed. A 2014 study in the magazine Applied animal behavioral science Estimated visitors deal with only one dog per visit and these interactions only took an average of eight minutes.

It is difficult for energy -rich, intelligent dogs like Brutus, which may be frustrated or closed,” she said.

The employees still believe that the right thing is at home forever. “He would thrive in a structured home without other pets or small children,” said Monson. “Ideally, his adoptier would be someone who understands strong, sometimes stubborn breeds and can deliver both leadership and affection.”

Creating this video was to give brutus and other dogs like him “one voice”. “We hope that people will see beyond the first impression and remember that every animal has a story it is worth to be told – and a life that is worth investing in,” said Monson. “Like so many others, Brutus only needs someone who is ready to make this jump.”
