The new boss confirmed at the bullying Scandal Channel S4C

A new boss of a TV channel, which was hit by a bullying scandal, was confirmed by the British government.

Former Labor politician Delyth Evans took over as chair of S4C and replaces the former Tory MP Guto Bebb, who spent 12 months as interim chairman.

Evans began the role on May 1, after being appointed by the Foreign Minister for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nandy.

After a turbulent time, she joins S4C, in which the former managing director Sian Doyle was released in November 2023 after claims by a toxic and bullying culture on the channel, followed by Evans' predecessor Rhodri Williams, who informed the British government that he did not want a second term.

The Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) also announced the appointment of five new members to the S4C board – Dr. Gwenllian Lansdown Davies, Dyfrig Davies, Wyn Innes, Betsan Powys and Carryn Ramasut.

The DCMS said that two of the candidates have worked with Plaid Cymru in the past – Gwenllian Davies was a city council until 2011 and the party's managing director between 2007 and 2011.

She is also the managing director of the early year's Welsh language training, Mudiad Meithrin.

The former managing director of the television company, Dyfrig Davies, had set for the party, although the explanation stated that this had not been the case for at least 10 years.

Before politics, Evans was a journalist at ITV-Broadcaster HTV Wales and worked on the current matters program Y BYD AR Bedwar for S4C.

Powys is a former political editor of BBC Wales and former editor of the Welsh radio and online services of the BBC.

Later she worked as a reporter for the world for one and PM for BBC Radio 4, before representing Wales in Mid and West Wales from 2000 to 2003.

After her work in politics, she was the managing director of Smart Works, a charity organization for women's employment, and is a member of the board at Sport Wales.

The managing director of S4C, Geraint Evans, said: “Delyth brings a wealth of leadership and governance experience and a passion to see the Welsh language in every corner of the country.

“Together with the rest of the S4C team, I am very happy to work with Delyth when we start a new chapter in our history.”

The selection of the job is the responsibility of the British government, which was accused of risking “public trust in Welsh media” from a high -ranking Welsh conservative due to the work background of Evans.
