LPSS examines a virus video by the teacher Slapping Student

A disturbing video on Facebook led to an official examination of the Lafayette Parish School Systems (LPSS) after it has supposedly shown a teacher who beats a student in a Lafayette class.

The video and public outrage

The video originally shared by Fallon Fonseca quickly spread on social media after she posted it with the caption. “Um WTF !!!! Someone explained some to do it !!! God, thank God, that's not my child …” The film material seems to show a student who sits at a desk while another person sits on him. Moments later a third person comes by and hits the student on the back of the head.

While most of the audio is difficult to recognize, a child can be heard in the background, which sounds “yes Ma'am”.

The video should have been recorded Edgar Martin Middle School. There was also speculation about whether the student has special needs, although this is not confirmed.

The outrage of parents and parishioners followed quickly, and many demanded accountability and answers.

LPSS answers

Tracy Wirtz, Communication Director of LPSS, confirmed that the district was investigating the matter:

“LPSS is aware and examined the incident. Since this is an ongoing examination, we cannot make a further comment. However, we can confirm that a person has resigned in the video. Superintendent Touchet says you will take all necessary measures based on the evidence after an immediate examination.”

In one episode, Wirtz added new details:

“The video is one year old and was only made aware of us. Everyone involved, including the person who led to video, is treated.”

Investigator continuously

Although the incident has not taken place recently, the concerns about the safety of the students and the behavior of adults in the classroom are still relevant. LPSS did not publish the names of those involved and it is unclear whether criminal complaints are taken into account.
