The CSUF Club emphasizes women in the weight room lifestyle

Men's strengths have been dominated for years – girls' gains change the narrative to strengthen women's trust in the gym.

The club was founded at San Diego State University in 2020 and is now present at over 100 locations in the USA, Canada and Vietnam. Your mission is to promote female weightlifting and support women in the gym.

In January 2023, the former President of Girl Gains, Kayla Long, brought the club to Cal State Fullerton. In the past two years, the CSUF's Girl Gains Club has organized events, frequent fitness courses, panel discussions with fitness trainers and a safe learning environment for women in the gym.

The current President Mattea Chung has worked hard to expand the club to Fullerton's campus, whereby the number of visitors vary weekly. On average, depending on the session, they have around 15 to 30 active members.

Many of the women in the club formed strong connections through their joint experiences with sport in the high school. After the college, however, they found themselves without a community with which they could remain active and prompted them to join for girls' gains.

“It was one of the best decisions I made. Now I am here, president of the club 2.5 years later (…) and all these people are here because I found a vision for it,” said Chung.

Haley Angbayani, Senior and Biology major at CSUUF, joined Girl -Guachsen in spring 2024 to continue to be active after leaving the school's cheerleading team.

“Before girls wins, I was in the jubilee team and I decided to separate,” said Agbayani. “I wanted something to fill this emptiness.”

While some women came to girls to continue their active lifestyle, some members just started their fitness trip.

Regardless of the fitness level, girls' profits are striving to be a safe space for women in order to learn and improve their weightlifting technology. Women of background and skills are welcome in the club. With a membership of $ 25, members have access to two weekly chapter meetings, goods discounts, off-campus events and their annual banquet at the end of the year.

During their two -week meetings, girls gained educated speakers to talk about the health, nutrition of women and other kinesiological topics.

CSUF's Girl wins chapters together with the chapters of other schools for fitness events. Last month they organized a hiking event with the USC's gain in girls called “Sisterhood Summit”. The club not only focuses on weightlifting, but also Pilates courses, Zumba courses, climbing, swimming and other fitness events.

Girls also have binding events such as Karaoke Night, Game Night, banquet and camping trips. This semester the event coordinator Sarah Mazengia planned a camping trip in the Joshua Tree National Park. They spent three days on the trip.

“It was our first big overnight stay (…). It was a lot of fun, many things went wrong,” said Mazengia. “But everyone survived.”

To complete the girl for one year, they organized their second annual banquet in the Titan Student Union. The members had free meals, games, awards and a slide show all their photographed memories from the 24-25 school year.

Mazengia came in her eyes with tears when she spoke as a senior citizen about her memories of girls' gains.

“The banquet was really difficult for me (…) I will miss it very much because they are all amazing, beautiful, and that is a real reflection of her soul,” said Mazengia.
