The Houston police cease investigations into threats to murder that against Astros Pitcher Lance McCullers Jr.

The Houston police have initiated an investigation into murder threats against Houston Astros Pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. and his family.

The police authority in Houston confirmed its investigation and added that, according to Houston Chronicle, no one was taken into custody from Monday morning.

McCullers revealed that his family received murder threats after his Saturday start against the Cincinnati Reds. McCullers gave up seven deserved runs in just a third of an inn. He was pulled out of the game after he had only thrown 36 parking spaces.

After the competition, McCullers said that someone threatened to find and murder their children. McCullers said he understood that there were passionate Astros fans out there, but this specific threat was “a little difficult to cope with”.

Astros manager Joe Espada said it was “unhappy” that the team had to do with these threats. He called the situation “very, very sad”.

The Astros informed the Houston police department and the MLB security of the threats. An MLB spokesman said the Houston Chronicle on Sunday that the league was in contact with the team.

McCullers is one of the longest rated players on the Astros. After McCullers had been confiscated by the team in the first round of the MLB design in 2012, he gave his Astros debut in 2015. While his career had a promising start, injuries have kept him away from the game in recent years. He missed the entire 2019 season when he recovered from Tommy John surgery. While McCullers was not ready for the beginning of the 2025 MLB season, it didn't take long for him to return to the plot. On May 4th, McCullers started his first major League start in two and a half years. He threw 3 2/3 goalless innings against the Chicago White Sox.

After the start on Saturday, McCullers remains a member of the rotation of the Astros. If he stays in the row, the next start of McCullers will come against the Texas Rangers on Thursday.
