The staff study by ABA, ASB and IDDBA emphasizes opportunities for talent development in commercial baking

Indianapolis, in – In response to the ongoing and intensified lack of staff in the US commercial back industry, the American Bakers Association (ABA), the American Society of Baking (ASB) and the International Dairy Dairy Bakery Association (IDDBA) have published a comprehensive new study, Future perspective of the American commercial baking: challenges and solutions from the workforce.

The 2025 study is commissioned by the three industry organizations and carried out by Cypress Research Associates, LLC and offers a detailed analysis of the skills, business effects and effective strategies that use companies to recruit, training and store specialists. In the study, the study focuses on hourly production roles such as loaders/senders, drivers, machine operators, maintenance and engineering specialists as well as employee items, including F&E, quality control/insurance and supplychain experts, and offers targeted insights into the challenges and best practices that do the greatest effects on baking views.

This new research builds on a benchmark study from 2016 and offers comparative insights into the change in the dynamics of work and the possibilities for sustainable talent growth for nine years.

“The Talent Challenge is not new, but the results of this study give us new clarity,” said Eric Dell, President and CEO of the American Bakers Association. “Through cooperation with our industry partners, we have created a resource that can be implemented in the background about the storage and recruitment of the workforce and that focuses on securing the role of Commercial Baking as a target workstation for current and future talents.”

“This study increases what we hear from commercial baking specialists every day – the challenge of the workforce is both urgently and further developed,” said Kristen L. Spriggs, Managing Director of the American Society of Baking. “By joining ourselves with strengths in partner organizations, we align the baking industry with more than just data-we provide the instruction. ASB is proud to take up a common roadmap that enables employers to recruit, train coaches and remain from first-class talents.”

“This cooperation offers the opportunity to counter the trends and challenges of the workforce that have an impact today to create and maintain future growth opportunities,” said Heather Prach Iddba Vice President of Education and Industry Relationships. Prach added that this cooperation hopes that it will be the first of many, since all three associations continue to serve in the industry.
