Felix Zwayer: Man UTD against Spurs referee, who is officially described in the match fixing scandal

Felix Zwayer was selected as the referee for the Europa League final of this month between Manchester United and Tottenham. Some fans will certainly recognize the names of the official.

Zwayer, who will act on May 21, will be the all-English clash in Bilbao, received a six-month ban for its share of a match fixing scandal in 2005.

The German, 43, was banned from the football association of his nation, after working as a deputy referee of Robert Hoyzer, who had found that he had done bribes to repair several 2nd Bundesliga games that he was.

Before a game with Wuppertaler SV, Zwayer allegedly accepted a bribery allowance of € 300 and later informed the German FA of Hoyzer's Match Repair – with three other referees who accompanied Zwayer.

Zwayer's ban was kept secret until the German publication Die “The Zwayer File” released in 2014. In the meantime, Hoyzer was banned for life.

In 2021 Jude Bellingham exhibited with Zwayers in a Bundesliga match between the rivals Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Bellingham, who played for Dortmund at the time, was fined for his comments with a fine of € 40,000.

Zwayer then took a break from the referee, although he was back in the spotlight at Euro 2024. There he seemed to England's semi -finals against the Netherlands, another game in which Bellingham played.

The UEFA said in a statement on Monday (May 12th): “An international referee has taken on seven games from the UEFA Champions League this season since 2012, including the semi-finals between Paris and Arsenal as well as two in the UEFA Europa League and one in the UEFA Conference League.

“This will be his second UEFA competition final as a referee. Zwayer was previously responsible for the UEFA Nations League 2023 between Croatia and Spain. He was also the main official in four games at UEFA Euro 2024.”

Zwayer's assistants in the final of the Europa League will be the compatriots Robert Kempter and Christian Dietz, while the fourth civil servant was called Italy's Maurizio Mariani.
