2025 NBA Draft Lottery: Live results, updates at the beginning of the Cooper Flag competition

The 2025 NBA Draft Lottery, also known as the Cooper Flag competition, is scheduled to take place on Monday evening. The lower 14 finisher of the 2024-25 season in the mix for a shot on number 1 of the overall winner.

This year, Consensus No. 1 is 18-year-old Duke Prospect Cooper Flagg, who led the Blue Devils to the NCAA Männerbasketball tournament 2025 to the Final Four before it bounced off from Houston, 70-67.

The Bottom-14 finishers in the regular season are entitled to design the lottery and have the chances of number 1 of the overall winner. The three teams with the worst records of the regular seasonal season of Utah Jazz (17-65), the Washington Wizards (18-64) and the Charlotte Hornets (19-63) have the best chances of securing number 1 in 14%.

In the actual selection process, the NBA notes:

Fourteen ping pong balls with 1 to 14 numbers are placed in a lottery machine. There are 1,001 possible combinations if four balls from 14 years are drawn regardless of their selection order. Before the lottery, 1,000 of these 1,001 combinations are assigned to the 14 participating lottery teams.

The drawing process takes place in the following way: All 14 balls are placed in the lottery machine and mixed for 20 seconds, and then the first ball is removed. The remaining balls are mixed for another 10 seconds in the lottery machine, and then the second ball is drawn. There is a 10-second mixture, and then the third ball is pulled. There is a 10-second mixture, and then the fourth ball is pulled. The team that was assigned this combination receives the No. 1 selection. The same process is repeated for the second to fourth picks with the same ping pong balls and lottery machines.

As soon as the top 5 have been determined by the lottery process, the rest of the draft of the first round is determined by the reverse order of the regular season records of the remaining team. The entire design command for round 2 is determined by the reverse order of the regular season record of each team.
