Gasleck in the Halts Business Downtown restaurant on Friday evening

A building in the center of the city center of New Canaan was evacuated on Friday evening after reports on gas leaks, according to the officials.

On May 9 at around 6 p.m., the new Kanaan fire brigade reacted to a reported gas smell in a restaurant on Main Street, according to a press release published by NCFD.

When an official with the help of a powerful firefighter from a neighboring city from a neighboring town, “a 100-gallon prone armor was quickly stepped in behind 15 elm,” the press release said. The address is the same as SE Uncorked.

The inhabitants of the buildings in the streets of Main and Elm left the premises, while the fire brigade “used hose lines to dispel the accumulated propangas dampers,” the press release said.

“Firefighters have also found that gas in the basement of 15 elm St. had accumulated and ventilated with a fan,” it said.

A propane technician who was supported by dangerous material technicians on site held the gas that was held by a valve, and the propane company removed the tank, said officials.

NCFD was about two hours on site.

“We were able to make quick decisions due to an earlier incident and the preliminary planning of the business district,” said fire chief Albe Bassett.

The Main Street between Buris and East Avenue was closed for about 90 minutes, and firefighters said, as did the Elm Street from Main to South Avenue.

“Residents and business owners should call 911 if they smell a gas leak,” said firefighters in the publication. “Both propan and natural gas have a lazy egg smell that can be detectable in the case of a smallest leak. Also make sure that there is carbon monoxide detectors in your house.
