The San Antonio family is looking for justice for teenagers

SAN ANTONIO – It is difficult for painting chapa not to talk about her son Mark Valdez.

“It was difficult,” said Chapa. “It is difficult to remember after four years in which I didn't have my son here. It is difficult to remember.”

Valdez was 13 years old when he was shot in his house in 2021. It happened on a New Year's Day during a drive-by shootout. Four years later, no arrests were made in connection with his death.

“My family wants justice and I want justice,” said Chapa. “I know that my son will not bring it back, but I have to do something because my son was not only injured, but other children are injured.”

The shootout occurred on the south side. At that time, the San Antonio police said that a white car drove up and opened the fire to the house.

KSAT checked in with SAPD again this week. A spokesman for the department said the case was forwarded to the public prosecutor.

A spokesman for the DA office said that the case is currently expecting an indictment, which means that no arrest has been made. But the public prosecutor announced KSAT by e -mail that there is a suspect.

It is this standstill in which Valdez 'family is frustrated.

“These people have to go to prison to do what they have done to my child,” said Chapa. “He doesn't get married, has a baby, see what life is, travel, drive his first car and is something great.”
