Manatee left unattended before death, while the employees in Homosassa State Park have released the pool: Report

A 1,000 pound lake cheeky named Shavay died in January in the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park after the employees unattended when she emptied the pool in which she was, according to a new USDA report.

“You really had an excellent record for the Seekuh care, but I believe that it was avoidable. And at the same time I think the measures are taken to ensure that this would not happen again,” said the manatee Club -Executive Director Dr. Patrick Rose.

The inspection report states that the pool was faster than expected than nobody watched, and because Shantay was positioned, she was caught and drowned. She had recovered in State Park after suffering a comato strike.

“They tried to better care for Shavay, the sea cowl that was rehabilitated. And to do this, they had to lower the water level in the tank in which it was recorded. In this situation, the water was faster.

The autopsy also states that Shamanay's immobility due to the existing injuries “probably contributed to this unfortunate event”.

“The failure of implementing proper handling process can lead to injuries or the death of the animal. The treatment of all animals is carried out in a way as quickly and carefully as possible that does not cause trauma,” the report said.

The other side:

In an explanation that was sent in Fox 13, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection partially wrote “… Parking staff worked closely with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to check what was happening and have taken steps to prevent future problems. As part of these efforts, the manatees were laid in a safe place housed this pool until the repairs were completed. “

Dr. Rose said he was confident that the right changes were made to prevent something similar from happening in the future.

“I believe that changes are already being made. It is not to apologize for what happened, but to learn and ensure that this would never happen again,” said Rose.
