Hundreds of mourners gather to remember young Beekin men who were killed in double murder

Peek (25News Now) – Pekys Junior Football League Field served as a location for a vigil on Tuesday evening to mourn the defeat of two young men who were shot in a house in South Pekin last week.

Several hundred people, including Alumni of Pekin High School, inhabitants of the city and soccer teammates, gathered on the JFL field, where many friendships for Chase Rhodes and Dawson Reese began.

Friends said Rhodes and Reese were the most generous and friendliest children on and off the field. They said the two will be missing for their ability to make everyone laugh.

Her long -time friend Kierstin Laws said that they were easy to love, which makes Pekin's adoption so difficult.

“The candle lighting is only one way to represent them and to represent the life and light they brought us,” said laws. “I just think that it is very important for us to be together during this time.”

The two 21-year-olds were shot in Reese Haus in Illinois Route 29 early Thursday morning. Reese's father kept the suspect, 21-year-old Memphis Rue, with a gun held until the police came home.

A judge of the Tazewell district gave an application a day on Tuesday to evaluate Rues mental condition to determine whether it is suitable for the process.
