Is the crime in Jackson down this year? Here are the numbers

Jackson, Miss. (WLBT) -Jackson has experienced almost extensive drops in violent crimes this year this year.

However, civil servants say that the department and the city, just because progress is made, do not rest.

“Every loss of life is a life that has lost too many,” said Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba. “We do not try to reduce the effects of violence in the city, but when we talk about violence … it is important to have measures that point out the success we have.”

Chef Joseph Wade discusses murders in the capital.

Statistics that were made available to WLBT show that by May 11, a decline in murders was given by 50 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In the meantime, a decline in the armed robberies of people by 20 percent and a decline in armed carjackings of almost eight percent was increased.

“Last year we were at 44 murders … This year we were at 22. We were able to reduce the number of murder due to the hard work of men and women in JPD due to our cooperation with state and federal partners and our cooperation with the community in half,” he said. “We are now in line again to get a city of our size.”

Despite the waste in most areas, JPD has had some climbers. The armed robberies of companies have risen by 267 percent to date. Six business raids were reported by May 11, 2024. So far it was 22.

There was also an increase in reports of rape and sexual battery by 35.71 percent, 19, with 19 reporting this year, compared to 14 in 2024.

The figures provided do not contain any crimes that have worked on the Capitol Police. This agency is in the Capitol Complex Improvement District in the main responsibility, which occupies around 8.7 square miles territory in the city.

Murders in this district seem to tend, with five have been registered this year. WLBTS Morde -Tracker shows two shy of the seven Capitol authorities who worked in all 2024.

According to Bailey Martin, spokeswoman for the Mississippi Ministry of Public Security, arrests were made in all five incidents. However, several suspects are still being sought in connection with the mass shooting, which occurred hours after the St. Paddy's Parade from Hal's St. Paddy. One person was killed in this incident.

As for business robberies, the police announced last week that they arrested a suspect that they believe that he is more than half of them.

This person, Ladarious Moore, was charged with three crimes in connection with robberies with three dollars, two family dollars and six petrol stations.
